Educational and entertaining

Lovely books for ESOL teaching with some great pictures. It's not always easy to find picture heavy English language resources which are suitable for adults, but these books are perfect! The comedic element to the books and lively characters means students (and teachers) can have a chuckle whilst they learn. In addition, the speech bubbles and small amount of text per page makes learning accessible for lower level English students and means that learners don't feel overwhelmed by big chunks of text.

A Wonderful Series

I always find myself smiling when I use these books in class and the students do too! Manageable text chunks and colourful photos make these lovely, funny stories easily accessible for all Entry level ESOL learners. There are lots of fantastic ideas for things to do in, and around, Leeds too! I think I'll take my class on the art trail!

Liz and Joe series

I thoroughly enjoyed reading these books. The storylines and the characters are so relatable and the setting is perfect. These awesome stories are supported by interesting, colourful photographs which consolidate understanding of the text so well! On every page there is just the right amount of text to explain what is happening in the story and with an appropriate level of linguistic complexity and variety. I particularly like the way in which the images and text provide opportunities for independent reading because the reader is stretched but never overfaced. The overall feeling I get from the books is that they really encourage learning. They were a pleasure to read from start to finish.

Comical, everyday stories

Some of my students come from farming backgrounds and I know they will love the new allotment themed Liz and Joe stories. Don't want to spoil the twist in the story, but Joe Gets Caught Out...students will enjoy discussing the morals of this tale. Poor Joe!

A top drawer read!

These books are ideal for a wide range of ESOL levels, as they contain colloquial conversational English, but also present more complex vocabulary, such as phrasal verbs, in an accessible way with contextual support from the excellent pictures.
The books are humorous and light hearted. Reading 'Art Adventures with Liz and Joe' made me want to get up and explore Leeds more!
