A good book

I was surprised when Sam shot the boss it was like Taggart. I liked the pictures and not too much words on the page. It was exciting - a story for adults.

Exciting and suspenseful

We wanted to let you know how much we liked reading Sam the Man by B.L. Hinde. The consistent vowel sounds are very helpful for practising putting letters together to make words and as a result we have made a lot of progress, which is very encouraging. We also really enjoyed the story, which is by far the best we have found so far at this level - exciting, suspenseful, and it made us laugh a few times too. Rebecca also remarked on the chapter about Sam''s mum Deb and the way it made her imagine how she would feel in a similar situation. She said the book was "amazing" and it is the first she has ever completed reading.

Well done

An individual enjoying the book, for me, is the most important factor when they are learning to read, so well done for accomplishing that.

A revelation

Having worked with young offenders with poor reading and writing skills for 15 years, Sam the Man has been a revelation!! Sam the Man is the first easy reader I can honestly say has got non-readers reading without too much fuss. The subject matter, the illustrations, the language with the repetition, all help to keep the reader engaged and wanting to know what happens next!
