Engaging and relevant

On the Job: Car Mechanic is engaging and relevant to 14-19 learners. I would certainly use this resource with the vocational Motor Vehicle learners at college. It provides embedded literacy resources that are relevant and accurate to the functional skills needs of the learner. I look forward to viewing other such vocationally apt materials.

Overall the learners liked the use of ‘real' situations. There isn't too much to read in one go and images were user friendly – realistic, accurate and valid. The learner could relate to the college workshop and any other work experience in the field that they had had.

Provoked thoughts on the learners' future work/study plans.

I don't like to read much but I liked the pictures. They helped me to read the words.

I liked the way English was taught using my chosen subject.

It made me think more about what I want to do in the future.
