Amazing Children Uganda learn with Yes We Can Read

Amazing Children Uganda helps children living or working on the streets in Uganda to escape from poverty through education. They provide school scholarships for children and young people living or working on the streets in Uganda. Their aim is to give each child the chance to fulfil their potential, transform their lives and take their place in society through education. Amazing Children Uganda identifies street children who have the motivation and capacity to benefit from education; they look for sponsors; and they identify high quality boarding schools. While the children are waiting for scholarships they provide some basic skills training, together with some arts and sports activities, so they are ready to make the most of the opportunity when it comes. They work with partners who can provide the other basic needs of the children for food, shelter and health care until they go to school.

Amazing Children Uganda have been using Yes We Can Read for the last year. A group of A level students (former street children who have been educated through the charity and are now just starting university) have been peer mentoring the younger street children with Yes We Can Read with remarkable success. As they were starting the programme it became apparent that 3 of the adult volunteers were also illiterate, so they have benefited from the programme too!
