This book is a welcome addition to the all too limited collection of books specifically designed for adult emergent readers. As a phonic beginner reader it responds to a growing awareness of the benefits of phonics approaches in the adult literacy classroom. The subject matter of the book... engages the reader in true page-turner tradition.
My Entry 2 literacy group read Mudlake this term and absolutely loved it. It generated loads of discussion and really made them think. We read one chapter at a time and they literally couldn't wait for the next instalment... My learners' response has been wonderful and we couldn't have had a better run up to the National Year of Reading.
Mudlake is a compelling story whilst creating an opportunity to teach the basics. The illustrations are superb.
Please congratulate both the author and editor of these great stories... Do encourage B L Hinde to continue the good work. We can't have enough of them.
