The most impressive part of the story is that it is not a bland, 'happy end' narrative, but poses questions and raises issues that can be discussed by learners. This shows respect for the learners' views and credits them appropriately with the skills that are beyond their language skills.
I particularly liked the storyline which is true to life and would have great relevance for many learners. The frequent use of repetition in the text is an excellent way of reinforcing the reading and spelling of key vocabulary. The illustrations are adult in nature and provide good contextual clues to the meaning of the text. Mehdi’s Story will prove a very suitable learning resource.
