The GatehouseBooks Prize Winner 2009 is David Monaghan

David has clearly worked hard to ensure that his learners can gain confidence in communication by providing highly stimulating, thoroughly planned sessions in which the variety of activity and resources suggest a very deep understanding of his subject to ensure great planning for learning.

David strives to empower his learners in the production of clear prose to ensure that the significance of their verbal communication is praised and valued by peers. David provides wide and varied access to written materials and helps his learners in the production of meaningful writing activity to convey social and cultural aspects of their lives to others.

David teaches in a truly multicultural setting and his appreciation and deep understanding of diversity ensures that all his learners can express their cultural differences both verbally and in writing which are welcomed and valued. David also demonstrates his commitment to helping learners in a charitable context by providing aid to orphans in Romania.

“I feel that David has met the criteria for the Gatehouse Books Prize and I fully commend his vocational and charitable work to raise both the quality of verbal and written communication of his learners.”
