Everyday Cloze
|
| Further Information |
'Cloze' exercises are reading passages from which occasional words are omitted so that the reader must think of appropriate words to fill the gaps. Everyday Cloze is designed for readers at a fairly basic level as an aid to improving their context and comprehension skills. Most pages contain a common sign or notice with one word missing, as well as a short passage of everyday reading with several words omitted.
The signs and notices include safety warning notices from factories, offices or shops; road and traffic signs; and household labels. The reading passages include instructions or information from food and shopping items; forms such as driving licence application, the Pools and Social Security; short everyday letters from the bank, doctor or school; notes and messages; and the legal oath.
The book is clearly laid out, with space to write in the words if necessary. Some students may be able to write in the missing words, but those who have few writing and spelling skills can do the exercises orally.
